There are unholy alliances among PC vendors, OS makers, and chip makers. It is impossible to choose the most economic option, though there are available in plenty.
For eg, try selecting a PC / laptop with AMD processor and Ubuntu OS. In the rare case you find one, it will be horribly expensive compared to the competing products. 
Its a joke indeed. AMD is cheaper than its compttr. Ubuntu is free [as in beer, also as in freedom]. So, why does the product cost horribly high ????
There is a limit to capitalism. There doesnt seem to be a limit to cartels. :-[</description>
